Our Aims

We are the only Boccia Club situated on the Yorkshire Coast that is affiliated with Boccia England the governing body of the sport.  Our motto is “Boccia Excellence on the Yorkshire Coast”.  Boccia  is a disability inclusive, gentle seated sport that can be played by anyone for fun or competitively regardless of age or ability.  We also offer other activities of New Age Kurling and Wheelchair/Chair Volleyball to give choice and variation to our members.

Scarboccia have been established since 2014  and we work within the local community and surrounding areas with schools and groups; such as dementia groups, young people and the elderly in care homes.  Our aims are to improve well-being, encourage social interaction and reduce isolation to those who have limited mobility and to promote their participation within the community.  We welcome new members to our sessions.

Whether you wish to play Boccia socially or competitively, Scarboccia is your pathway to learning about the sport or progressing further with tournaments and competitions.

Scarboccia narrowly missed out on retaining their Yorkshire Regional Championship title again this season due the great performance of IM Leeds and we wish our Boccia friends good luck in the finals in Sheffield on June 30th.

Grants and Donations Received

  • NYCC  Stronger Communities
  • The Mears Charitable Foundation
  • Irwin Mitchell Solicitors
  • Scarborough Mayoress Community Fund
  • Scarborough Rotary Club Crown Tavern Charity Walk

Mayoress Presentation 8th May

The generous funding that we have received from the above funders and Grants has enabled us to purchase new Boccia ramps and Boccia sets as well as our New Age Kurling and Volleyball set.  It also means that we can continue our community work.  Thanks to Irwin Mitchell we have been able to acquire an iPad and the Boccia England Scoring App so we are able to train more efficiently and adhere to the rules and timing of matches and competitions more effectively.  Scarboccia members have now got a tracksuit each that will eventually have our Logo, Motto and initials on them. We are constantly  seeking funds with help and support from kind donations and grants so that Scarboccia can sustain and pursue our goals, whilst developing our recognition and work within the community.

We have continued our community work with weekly Boccia sessions at Jazz Court and The Street.

SCARBOCCIA calls out for votes to bag a share of Tesco’s bag fund

SCARBOCCIA is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

SCARBOCCIA is one of the groups on the shortlist.

Voting is open in all Tesco stores in JULY/AUGUST and customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £52 million to more than 16,000 projects up and down the UK. Tesco customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop. Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.

Alec Brown, Head of Community at Tesco, said:

“Bags of Help has been a fantastic success and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from customers. It’s such a special scheme because it’s local people who decide how the money will be spent in their community. There are some fantastic projects on the shortlists and we can’t wait to see these come to life in hundreds of communities.”

Groundwork’s National Chief Executive, Graham Duxbury, said:

“Bags of Help continues to enable local communities up and down the UK to improve the local spaces and places that matter to them. The diversity of projects that are being funded shows that local communities have a passion to create something great in their area. We are pleased to be able to be a part of the journey and provide support and encouragement to help local communities thrive.”

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online. To find out more visit
